I was born and raised in Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Growing up on a farm, I learned to love and appreciate animals and nature. As a child I spent many hours drawing, sketching and coloring. And then life got busy with other interests. In 1981 I had a sketch of myself done in charcoal by an artist at the 'Red River Ex. My interest was rekindled. Then in 1982, I decided to try my hand at painting. Off to the store I went to buy the basic oil colors and some brushes. I was so eager to get home and get started I forgot to buy a canvas to paint on. No worries. I'm good at improvising. I cut up an old pair of jeans and proceeded to paint a horse's head and neck. I succeeded beyond my expectations. It just goes to show that with determination and thinking, you can do anything you set your mind to! God provides everything we need, canvases of cloth, tree bark, wood, rocks ect...I tried painting in different mediums but oil is still my favorite.
In 1996/97 while undergoing 'chemo treatment' for bone cancer I found my eyesight fading and I was sure I was going blind. To me, never being able to see God's awesome wonders, to read or to paint again seemed a fate worse than death. But God restored me. What a blessing!
Now as I look at God's creations and his ever beautiful ,and ever changing palette of colorful sceneries, I try not to take life or anything for granted. Now with God's gift, as a self taught artist, I can do a little creating of my own where my sceneries, animals, birds and flowers are captured forever on canvas. Don't say, "I could never do that!" Try it first! We all have God given abilities, we just have to find them and develop them. Happy painting!
