John MacKenzie Gallery

John was born in Inverness, Scotland on Robbie Burns Day 1958. His family moved to Canada when he was just a wee laddie and settled in "crazytown" Transcona. It was there that he was first told, "you should be an artist when you grow up."
Well, he never grew up, but he did become an artist...

John is a self-taught artist who paints in watercolor. He learned his craft through a lot of trial and error and says he likes the medium for the "freedom of expression and the unpredictability it provides." For the past 25 years or so John has worked in the commercial art field, designing Eskimo and wildlife scenes for jackets, as well as logos and hockey crests. He also spent five years doing sports paintings and has had numerous pieces published in Beckett Hockey magazine. Many pro athletes, such as Thomas Steen and Teemu Selanne (both formerly
of the Winnipeg Jets...sigh) own his paintings.

John lives in Winnipeg with his wife Susan and their three furry kids (OK - their cats) Begbie, Voodoo and Chesney.

All original artwork or prints will be unmatted and unframed. Framing, shipping and handling are extra.
